Triund trek distances are only 14kms from the famous Dharamshala or Mcleodganj and happen to be easily accessible, making it a perfect weekend destination.

However, weekdays are also highly favoured for Triund Trek which offers a more peaceful experience, as many plans for a thrilling weekend and hence, makes the place more crowded during the end of the week. McLeodganj aka Little Lhasa allows an opportunity to explore the best of Tibetan Culture if given more time in the schedule as this short 2-day trek barely spares enough time to travel out of plan.

Triund is a beautiful trek that bounds the charm of forests and welcomes people of all age groups. Perhaps, also a significant reason as to why it’s so accepted in Himachal Pradesh as a perfect weekend trek.

Most Common and Quick Itinerary

[Day 1] Starting the trek from Dharamkot, which is less than 2 km from McLeodganj, enjoying the scenic views and the nature to reach Triund before the sunset.

[Day 2] Wake early to appreciate the sunrise, followed by a warm breakfast. A day to retrace the steps covered in the past day to reach Dharamkot by the evening, where this journey ends.

How to Reach?

A small village with the name Dharamkot acts as the base camp for the Triund Trek, which is near McLeodganj at a short 2km of distance and a quick 25-minute walk from the bus stand. One can hire taxis from McLeodganj which would cover a total of 8 km.

  • Taxi or Bus: From Delhi, an overnight bus is the most preferred way to reach McLeodganj through a bus going to Dharamshala. The dropping point of the bus would be the main square of McLeodganj.

From Chandigarh, one can hire a 6 hours long overnight bus from Chandigarh ISBT to McLeodganj.

  • Airways: Kangra/Gaggal is the nearest domestic airport for Triund at only a 10 km distance from Dharamshala.

Other available domestic airports are Pathankot airport at 96 km from Mcleodganj and New Delhi International Airport [175 km].

Food Options for Triund Trek

Throughout The trekking season, many dhabhas are available on the Triund trek that offers a cooked meal and refreshments. However, instead of buying and packaged food, a better option is to carry a water bottle and some refreshments by yourself as multiple food options are not available at Triund.

A bottle of water costs about Rs 50, a plate of Rajma or Dal Chawal costs Rs 140 and a serving of Maggi costs Rs 70. There are a few dhabhas/tea shacks that offer some good meal, though, the food is slight costlier at the Triund top,

Mobile Connection at Triund

In Mcleodganj all the cellular networks are available. As for Triund, it does not receive a strong connection. Although BSNL or Vodafone performs the best in the Triund Trek area, usually, the network comes and goes.

Nearby places to visit

Triund is one of the favourite trekking destinations in Himachal Pradesh for all the reasons we already talked about but, hold up! It is much more than just trekking and camping. Triund has a cluster of interesting places to explore nearby such as-

Bhagsu falls is a hot tourist attraction famous for its captivating waterfall. Namgyal Monastery is identified as the home of the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader. Triund is a gorgeous place with a tranquil atmosphere with spiritual air and the perfect place to observe Tibetan culture.

Mcleodganj also grants several trekking destinations that crown it as a tourist hub, which includes- kareri river trek, the Guna Devi temple trek, and the Indrahar pass trek.
